Celebrating America’s Fastest-Growing Companies at the Inc. 5000 Conference

For the first time in our host travel agency’s history, KHM Travel Group made the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America.
To celebrate the collective success of the honorees, we were invited to take part in Inc. Magazine’s three-day conference which took place at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert California from October 10-12, 2017.
The conference featured motivational and enlightening speakers from among the list’s rankings, plus other business leaders and innovators.
KHM Travel’s Director of Intellectual Resources Karen Siburt and Business Analyst Craig Freeman attended, and brought back insights and takeaways from networking sessions.
Daymond John of Shark Tank was one of the more well-known speakers. He advised attendees to expect failure — rather than fear it — as part of their business’s growth. In fact, it took him several tries to get his now multi-billion-dollar clothing line, FUBU, off the ground.
Dr. Brené Brown explored the foundations of courage, which has four pillars: vulnerability, clarity of values, trust and rising skills. Business owners need to have the courage to do something — to develop these pillars — and not let themselves fail.
Other high profile sessions featured the former CEO of The Ford Motor Company, Alan Mulally, who spoke on the need for adaptability and transformation in times of struggle. It’s not just about rebranding your product, but working to change the perception of your products.
Karen says that she was surprised at how prominent small and medium-sized businesses were at the Inc. 5000 event.
“The average employee size was 100 to 150 people,” Karen says. “It’s easy to celebrate big businesses, but it’s nice to see organizations like Inc. celebrating smaller businesses.
She says it was also inspiring to see the pride others have in their businesses, and to have the opportunity to talk to like-minded business owners. For Karen, these few days offered the chance to reflect on ways to improve certain aspects of our own business, like security and ensuring the correct policies and procedures are implemented across the company.
Overall, the atmosphere was open, appreciative and celebratory!

The 2017 Inc. 5000, unveiled online at Inc.com and with the top 500 companies featured in the September issue of Inc., is the most competitive crop in the list’s history. The average company on the list achieved a mind-boggling three-year average growth of 481%.
With three-year sales growth of 135%, KHM Travel Group made the list for the first time in the host travel agency’s history and was also ranked 21st among businesses in Northeast Ohio included in the Inc. 5000.
