The new couples-only Sandals Barbados resort, the group’s 15th in the Caribbean, welcomed its first guests last week. Vacationers can expect the ultimate in luxury here, where the island’s casual calypso vibe fuses with the cosmopolitan glamour of its frequent visitors.

Sandals took over the Couples Barbados’ facilities near St. Lawrence Gap in 2013 and spent $65 million renovating the property and adding a slew of new restaurants.

The resort features 280 rooms organized into three distinct villages which allow guests to choose from scenic beachfront suites, or rooms spaced along a swim-up river pool. Each room includes indoor and outdoor soaking tubs, as well as mahogany four-poster beds.

With such luxurious lodgings, guests might not want to leave their rooms, but Sandals has provided plenty of reasons. The resort’s lineup of eleven restaurants encompasses a wide range of global cuisines, including everything from a French Brasserie and The Bombay Club, Sandals’ first-ever Indian eatery.

The Red Lane Spa facilities were expanded and revamped, and now offer special happy hour services paired with hand-crafted cocktails.

The resort’s three pools, one of which is ringed by cabanas, are decked out with chandeliers, couches and tons of outlets for charging mobile devices.

For families, the Sandals experience in Barbados will be available in the near future. The company plans to develop an all-inclusive family resort on the island later this year.
